Welcome to 4th grade! We are thrilled to partner with families and students as we enter a journey of learning, growth, and discovery. In 4th grade, we’ll focus on building independence and responsibility as we build a deeper understanding across all subject areas.
In literacy, we will work on strengthening students’ reading comprehension by analyzing and responding to fiction and non-fiction texts. In addition, we will utilize writing as we respond to text and show development of strong ideas, defend our ideas with text evidence, and use organization to ensure writing is clear. Social Studies will be taught through literacy as students learn about the Civil Rights Movement and the United States government.
In math, students will learn various strategies to deepen their number sense, place value understanding, and ability to solve different mathematical problems as we tackle multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students will also learn about fractions, decimals, and geometry. In addition, we will work on understanding and solving word problems across all areas of math. It is very important that students come to 4th grade knowing their basic math facts to help their understanding of concepts.
